Thing 16

I've signed up for Pandora and made a few play lists. I like to listen to country, rock, pop, blues, easy listening. Some times I like to listen to radio live on the internet. This is one of the stations I like.

Thing 15

I though Podbean.com was easy to use. I listened to Stuff To Blow Your Mind, a Music and a Dance pod cast. I don't think pod cast are for me. Music is one of my favorite forms of entertainment but every thing I listened to sounded tinny. The library could use pod cast as a way to promote programs and events.

Thing 14

There's good and bad things about YouTube, just as there is good and bad things about the world wide web. I think you can probably say that about most things. I've had a YouTube account for 4 years now. I've posted a few videos. The above video is the first video I posted on YouTube. I did look for "libraries" videos and found a few. Some were really quite cute. I think the library could use this site to promote the Largo Public Library.

Thing 16

I recently came from a party where the host was using their laptop and streaming music in from Pandora.  A song or music genre was typed in and the site continuously played songs of similarity. iTunes is another streaming site I've used.  Classical and Pop are genres that top my playlist.   I've also come across iLike through Facebook.  I'd add a song I like, and I'd automatically  get updates on when that particular band would be playing a concert locally, which if I was in the habit of going to concerts, would have found that useful information.  Genius on the iPods is another application that seaches through databases classifying similar style music.

Thing 15

I liked using iTunes to find podcasts. I found what interested me faster through iTunes, like Catholic Answers Live. I also found it easier to share links on iTunes. I did look through podcast.com and podbean.com and found them about the same in being overwhelming at first glance. I liked the "tag" option in the toolbar on podbean.  Podcasting book talks, tutoring and other programs could be a way for libraries to get involved with this resource.  Below is a link I clicked on to experiment with posting it.

Thing 14

As Linda nicely put it, there are things worth viewing and things not so worth viewing on Youtube. I've used Youtube lots of times in finding shows and music once listened to or watched. I found the above video under the tag of libraries, and although a bit drawn out, thought it pretty clever (esp. being a LOTR fan) in giving an overview of what libraries are becoming. I'm afraid I sympathized with the book wraiths, though! ;) Posting how-to videos would be something our library could do.

Thing16

One useful thing about using streaming music sites is having your music at your fingertips, consolidated, rather than multiple, fragile CDs cluttering up your home or work area. I enjoy jazz, country, disco and classical music the best. I found 2 sites as I was wandering: myspace music and Rhapsody. This is all very helpful, but one question: how does an old fogy like me keep up with all of this???

Thing 15

I listened to ABC World News and Radio National "All In The Mind". I looked at all the sites and thought podcast.com and podbean.com were the easiest to use and most helpful. I don't see myself signing up for these right now, I can't seem to keep up even with facebook, but in the future, I may begin using them. Wonder if LPL would ever podcast story time? Hmmmm?

thing 14

Youtube: it is the best of sites, it is the worst of sites. Like any tool, it can be used for great or awful purposes. I chose my video with kids in mind. LPL should have a puppet feature to explain things to kids like this video does. The possibilities of attracting kids would be wonderful. I volunteer to help create it, if any powers that be are interested.

Thing 13

I explored Addictomatic, Social Mention and Google Alerts.  I found Addictomatic the easiest to use right off the bat, and found enough positive things about our library, in both image and comment form.  The biggest services the library offers, like language tutoring, genealogy, the use of the catolog and the drive thru are out there. As some one else mentioned, just posting positive experiences when possible and making it visible through posters and flyers that the library is on the social networking scene would help. Google Alerts is interesting and a good source for keeping up with current news on a specific topics that are important to work and the community.  I still feel some of this is way TMI.

Thing 13

Today I explored the world.....

I found it very interesting how few mentions of libraries are out there. Not just ours, but in general. I think if we want to be seen & heard around the world we need to blog in the right places. What are these places.....any and all we can find to link up to in the time allotted. I don't necessarily mean we 'common workers'....a designated person(s) posting something new and informative daily.

Overall, I found the tools interesting and noted that the web is offering a lot of things we already offer to the public/patrons on our own website. Let us not forget that a picture is worht a thousand words.

Thing 13

I agree with Patty E's remarks completely! I had more luck with Largo Public Library Florida than without "Florida". (Social Mention shows Rosie Posie as the 9th top user, can that be true???) We are out there but its a hard task to know how we can improve visibility. Give the people what they want, as far as we can. "If you build it, they will come" Can we build a field of dreams, too? We'll see! The tools were interesting, having several sites together is handy.

Thing 13

I explored all three sites. The Largo Public Library is out there on the web.  It seems to depend on your search terms on each of the three sites as to how much information you can find about the library.  When I put in the search term Largo Library I had more hits then when I put in Largo Public Library.  If I added the term Florida to the search I would get even more hits.  I think a lot of it depends on your search terms.

I think a lot of people are unaware that Largo Public Library is out there on Twitter, Facebook, Youtube etc.   We should be advertising this fact in the monthly calender, on books marks and the marquee sign. Also make a book mark that shows Largo Public Library's blog page.

I think I could spend a lot of time on these site searching different interest.  I like that I can go to one of these sites and search and it will pull up blogs, social networking site, news sites and put it all on one page.  Again this is bringing the information to me from all the sites and letting me pick and choose where I get my info from.

Thing 12

OK guys, here is the link to check out my library thing.
http://www.librarything.com/catalog/vcarter

Hopefully no one has noticed that this is being added several days after my posting. I listed 6 books, but I can't truthfully say that they are my favorites. Every notice how your mind goes blank when asked to list specific things? No? Well, wait a few years!!

This could be handy for people that do not use their library or their library account. I am the sort that prefers one-stop shopping whenever possible. I love my library account.

Thing 12

This could be very helpful to organize and find books, and adding them was so easy. Although my selections' popularity leaves something to be desired, I did enjoy the comments on the titles by bloggers. Here are my books.

Thing 12

Library Thing is rather like flickr, but for books.  It's interesting to see how many have tagged books one is familiar with and what has been said about them.  It could be helpful in the recommendation of books as well as finding other authors read by people with similar tastes.

Thing 12

I've set up my LibraryThing account and added some books to my collection. Some of the books I've read are quite popular others not so.   Below is a link to my catalog
